Today’s no maybe tomorrow’s yes! My grandmother had a saying "Sometimes a no is God way of saying not yet." During that moment of frustration, it's hard to put our focus on God and to see what good could come out of a no. We tend to find every negative that we can, and we choose to be our biggest critic. We may have been told no for a job interview that we wanted, a college that we truly wanted to attend, or maybe something materialistic that we wanted.
When my brother was graduating high school, he had a list of colleges that he truly wanted to attend. On the top of his list, he had Florida State. Well, the anticipated letter that he was hoping and praying for came. However, it wasn't the letter that we were looking for as a family. That was a major blow for him and the family, so much so he didn't speak the entirety of the day. That was his no for today. He was his biggest critic thinking what more could he have done. Feeling like the weight of the world on his shoulders.
The very next day. Mail was waiting on him to open however, he was very reluctant to get another denial letter from another school. This letter was from the University of Florida. In a twist of fate this particular letter it praised him as a student and his extracurricular activities. He couldn't believe his eyes questioning was it real. This letter welcomed him to the University of Florida as this was his acceptance. As you can imagine we laughed, we cried and hugged one another.
As you can imagine the irony being turned downed one day with a short to the point letter to a school he was praying to go to. Asking God why not him? The very next day God answered the same exact prayer just with a different direction. God tends to do be a comedian like that at times when we are praying for something so much. God will grant us our wish but only when he can put us in a position to where we can succeed. He will never put his in a situation where we will have to struggle and be a failure.
My brother eventually went to the University of Florida that was 45 minutes away and graduated within three years. He was more than capable of doing the same thing at FSU but that wasn't where God saw the greatness in him.
We tend to get frustrated and wonder if we are good enough when we told no. Many times, we are more than qualified to be in the place that we are asking to be its just not the time. We must still keep the faith even when we are at our lowest moments, we have to be our biggest fans. We must be mindful to never get to hard on ourselves. We must remember when one door closes another one opens back up.
